Rotation Objectives
Goals
The goal of the Away rotation is to provide learning opportunities that may not be available at Memorial Medical Center or in the local medical community.
Objectives
The objectives of the Away rotation in patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, system-based practice, and professionalism are found in the Resident Manual.
Rotation Specifics
The Away rotation is a block in the PGY3. It is the responsibility of the resident to meet with his or her advisor before the beginning the PGY3 to discuss possible rotations and make a decision based on availability of housing, board, merit of the learning experience, and a willing preceptor. The Academic Coordinator will assist the resident with setting up the rotation and making evaluation materials available.
Rural
Goals
The goal of the Rural rotation is to provide learning opportunities that will enable residents to develop or refine the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to:
- Diagnose and treat those conditions most commonly seen in Family Medicine in a rural environment.
- Perform the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures necessary and available for adequate care in Family Medicine in a rural setting.
Objectives
The objectives of the Psychiatryiatryiatry rotation in patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, system-based practice, and professionalism are found in the Resident Manual.
Procedural Skills
Consistent with the rural setting in which the resident does the rotation.
Rotation Specifics
The Rural rotation is a block of the PGY2. The resident is responsible for discussing a rural setting with his or her advisor before the beginning of the PGY2. A number of sites are available, and others may be chosen depending on availability of housing, board, and a responsible and appropriate community preceptor. The Academic Coordinator will assist with setting up the rotation and facilitating evaluations.
Rural
Goals
The goal of the pediatric curriculum is to provide FM residents with learning opportunities that will enable them to develop or refine knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to
- Diagnose and manage common pediatric disorders
- Recognize, triage and coordinate consultation of complex pediatric conditions
- Provide education and support for patients and families living with pediatric disorders
- Effectively communicate with all members of the healthcare team
- Develop a professional identity that emphasizes individual, practice and system improvement
Objectives
The objectives of patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skill, system-based practice, and professionalism are found in the Resident Manual.
Procedural Skills
The resident will demonstrate proficiency in:
- venipuncture
- peripheral vascular access
The resident will document/demonstrate experience with:
- lumbar puncture
The resident will demonstrate understanding of:
- sedation for procedures
Rotation Specifics
The Inpatient Pediatric block rotation takes place in the Pediatric ICU and wards at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. It is taught and overseen by Board Certified Pediatricians.
