SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO'S FIRST CHOICE IN HEALTHCARE

Observerships

Who:

Observership rotations are available to high school or college students considering a career in medicine or to graduates of medical schools approved by the New Mexico Medical Board.

When:

Rotation availability varies with the time of year.  All rotations are on a first come first served basis.  The busiest time of the year is October thru February, so inquire early.

Educational Component:

An observership is a clinical rotation that does not allow direct patient contact.  It is essential to understand this fact.  As opposed to a Medical Student, an observer does not have malpractice insurance coverage and thus can not provide any patient care.  The observer will not be allowed interview, examine or provide any advice to patients.

Room and Board:

Room and board may be available depending on the time of year and number of externs or other observers attending the program.

Requirements:

Clearance by the Human Resources Department.
