Telehealth Services
The residency collaborates with the ECHO program (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes echo.unm.edu) of the University of New Mexico, School of Medicine (UNM). Through this program we are able to conduct specialty telemedicine clinics with the UNM faculty in topics such as Hepatitis C, HIV, high-risk obstetrics, and rheumatology over a closed circuit telemedicine system.
We also use this telemedicine system to provide care to students at local high schools which are equipped with telemedicine units . Via broadband access the residents have the ability to use these high tech telemedicine units which are equiped with electronic medical equipment such as otoscopes and stethoscopes.
We feel that by providing our residents with these skills they will be prepared to provide medicine in the 21st century to rural areas where access to medical care may be limited.
